Maldives
September ’26
After almost three hours bouncing over the waves from Malé, with flying fish and a few very seasick passengers as our travel companions, we finally arrived at Dhigurah, a local island in South Ari Atoll.
No fancy resort, no private villa. Just a real island, a handful of guesthouses, little restaurants serving pretty much the same food, sandy streets and everyday island life.
And then… the sandbank!! Wow!!
That honeymoon-vibe, Instagram-proof piece of paradise with blindingly white sand and turquoise water. Of course there were tourists taking selfies, flying drones and making content for the socials. Including us. Obviously.
And even though we chose a local island, somehow we still managed to spend a serious amount of money. Because… whale sharks.
We went whale shark snorkeling, which turned out to be mostly rushing, chasing boats and arriving just a little too late. Twice.
No whale sharks for us unfortunately.
But we did see nurse sharks, blacktip reef sharks, turtles, stingrays, dolphins and trumpetfish. So really… who are we to complain?
The kids were in the water, we were snorkeling, swimming, jumping on and off the boat.
Yep. This is pretty damn amazing!!!
We’ll definitely be back someday.
