Ho Chi Minh City, the city of scooters!
So obviously, we had to experience it the only proper way: on scooters ourselves.

For four hours Lin from @saigon_on_motorbike took us right into the madness, through buzzing markets, tiny local streets, delicious local bites and a traffic flow that somehow looks like complete chaos… yet magically works.

The boys haven’t talked about anything else since and Boris is already studying for his scooter theory. #worldschooling

So yes, another mode of transport to tick off our world travel bingo list:

✅ Tuk tuk
✅ Train
✅ Speed boat
✅ Bus
✅ Metro
✅ Plane
✅ Scooter

What’s next?

Ho Chi Minh City, another little stopover.
Something about hunting for cheap flights and seeing where they take us…

And of course, we had to learn a little about the Vietnam War.

So we took a Grab to the Cu Chi Tunnels at Ben Duoc. More than 250 km of underground tunnels where people actually lived, worked, fought, cooked and survived during the war.

Tiny, tiny, tiny tunnels. Rooms, hospitals, kitchens… all hidden underneath a jungle that was sometimes completely destroyed.

Obviously, we had to crawl through one ourselves.

Jeroen went first. Not even through the “Happy Buddha” entrance made for tourists. Just straight into this ridiculously small hole. And honestly, we were all thinking: there is absolutely NO way he’s going to fit through there.

But somehow… he did.

After that, we visited the War Remnants Museum. And that was a different story. Some of the photographs and exhibitions were confronting, especially the sections about the Tiger Cages, war crimes, napalm and the devastating effects of Agent Orange.

So we softened that part of the day a little for the kids, while Guusje happily explored the planes and tanks outside.

And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without some @schooltv back at the hotel afterwards for adding a little more context about the Vietnam War, the Cold War and communism.

We ended the day exactly how you should after a day like this: sitting on tiny plastic chairs, eating ridiculously good street food in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City.

❗️Tip: there’s an old swimming pool at the Ben Duoc tunnels area. For a small fee, you can take a refreshing dip. We were literally the only ones there and after crawling through those tunnels in the heat, that swim was absolute heaven before getting back into the Grab.
